Scottish Borders Walking Festival 2016

walking festivalScottish Borders Walking Festival 2016The Scottish Borders Walking Festival has one of its busiest ever schedules for 2016.

Coldstream hosts 31 walks from Sunday 4 to Saturday 10 September this year, an increase on the 2015 total.

The popularity of the longest established walking event in Scotland – now in its 22nd year and which is hosted by a different Borders town each year – is highlighted by the six walks in six days which cover the whole of the 62-mile St Cuthbert’s Way being sold out almost four months in advance of the event.

However, a host of other walks are still available to take part in for ramblers of all abilities, with social events also planned each evening.

These include a guided tour of Flodden on the commemoration day of the infamous battle which takes in a potential escape route used by Scottish soldiers.

Scottish Borders Walking FestivalOther routes take in the Berwickshire coast, Cheviot Hills and cross-border trails.

Scottish Borders Council supports the event alongside South East Scotland Transport Partnership (SEStran).

Since its inception the festival has attracted walkers from across the United Kingdom to enjoy the Borders’ landscape. The increased schedule is expected to make this year’s festival one of the best yet.

As well as St Cuthbert’s Way, routes have plenty to offer, including a National Park, historic buildings, quaint villages and a beautiful coastline all available to experience.
