Golfing in the brilliant borders

It can seem as though there’s a golf course round every other corner and with some of the finest scenery to be found anywhere in England and Scotland, border golf courses offer some stunning settings.

Golf is at the heart of the Borders sporting scene and golfers really are spoilt for choice. There are over 50 golf courses in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, tailored to suit all types of player from championship layouts to links courses, beautiful parklands and memorable hidden gems.

In the Scottish Borders you have 21 courses to choose from including the outstanding Roxburghe and Cardona courses whilst Slaley Hall, Bamburgh and Berwick-on-Tweed courses are among the best in Northumberland.

Four golf courses recognised as the friendliest in the Scottish Borders are the 18-hole courses at the Hirsel and Minto and the 9-hole courses St Boswells and Selkirk.

In the Scottish Borders all clubs are part of the Freedom of the Fairways Golf Pass initiative which has become the most popular golf pass in Scotland. It’s available at many local hotels. The Freedom of the Fairways deal offers the 3-Day Golf Passport entitling the golfer to up to six rounds of golf over three consecutive weekdays (weekends four rounds) at exceptionally special prices.
