The village’s population will swell threefold as music lovers descend on the town to take in one of Scotland’s longest running music festivals. Now in its 43rd year, the festival plays host to a plethora of performers who will play in venues dotted around the village throughout the weekend in a series of competitions.
The big event, the Grand Winners Concert, will take place on Saturday evening showcasing the winners from the day’s competitions.
One of the Newcastleton Music Festival organisers, Susie Kelly said Newcastleton is preparing for a busy weekend ahead: “We are expecting around 2000 visitors over this 43rd Festival weekend which more than triples the population. All the businesses do a lot of their annual trade over the Festival weekend and now that the festival is tied in with the Common Riding, the visitors for both enjoy both celebrations.”
Confirmed performers on Friday night include Aileen Carr, Maggie Macrae, Martin and Liz Maroni, Gavin Marwick and Robert Menzies. Each evening visitors can also enjoy a ceilidh and singaround and are encouraged to join in the fun.
With most accommodation snapped up in advance, revellers are advised that ample camping will be available. For more information on accommodation, ticketing and further festival news visit http://www.newcastleton.com/
